Rules for thee but not for me
As a newer Linux user I really like flatpaks.
I don’t use them for most things I install but proprietary apps I want sandboxed or programs that have weird issues with dependencies I grab the flatpak.
Half the reason I switched to Linux almost a year ago was to avoid Microsofts forced invasive Ai bullshit. Seeing stuff like Recall has only cemented my decision.
I could go on a long rant about what I consider “right & wrong” when it comes to Ai but I’m just some dude and wanna use my own computer in the way I want to.
I had an original fat model PSP in white and that thing never looked truly clean after the first week no matter how hard I tried! It put me off buying white electronics ever since.
People who insist on having all white everything scare me.
I ain’t gonna say it’s as easy as Windows but I personally haven’t had too much trouble running cracked games using the Lutris launcher.
Lutris also lets you show logs by right click on the game, So if you get an error while playing or loading it gives you something to look up.
Also you can ask for help over at /c/[email protected]
Welcome to the club!
That was kinda my experience as well when I ran vanilla Arch for a bit, First day was just finding and installing stuff that already came on Endeavour.
After I had an SSD issue had to switch to another drive I didn’t really see grabbing regular Arch again as worth the extra hassle.
Not only that but the original mixes of albums often don’t get put on streaming platforms because of licensing bullshit or whatever.
And especially for rock and metal the newer remasters of popular albums tend to be pretty bad and overly compressed or have weird post EQ added.
You have to add the drive to a file called ‘fstab’ to have it be mounted on launch
If you want a video guide here’s the one I learnt to do it from.
It is kinda annoying Linux doesn’t seem to have a decent auto mount solution yet especially for people like me with 6+ drives in their machine.
What card you using? I have a RTX 3080 and it’s worked fine on Endeavour/KDE (besides Wayland)
Windows 10 LTSC 2021 edition has support until January 13th 2032.
I’d obviously prefer if more people gave Linux a try but if you’re literally forced to use Windows then it’s probably your best option right now.
I might be a bit out of the loop but I assumed the LibreWolf team already removes questionable code when building their fork?
I remember one Christmas dinner one of my aunties asked about iCloud and how are they “storing pictures n stuff inside clouds now?” (physical clouds!)
Everyone immediately looks at me and most of them probably didn’t believe me when I said it’s just a marketing term for storing your data on a companies “computer”/server.
My family is mostly tech illiterate, but still call me paranoid when I tell them the actual truth behind the tech they’re putting their trust in.
I only recently start using it after also being a browser email user all my life.
Kinda wondering what took me so long Thunderbird is great! don’t have to relearn questionable Ui between different email providers or re-login to check two mailboxes on the same provider.
Only annoying thing is not supporting ProtonMail out of the box.
Honestly the only people I try to “convert” to Linux are my friends who already hate Windows, which is most of them these days.
Sadly a lot of them either still regularly use programs we can’t get running on Linux yet (okay it’s mostly Fortnite…). Or they’re not the most tech literate people and switching to a whole new OS seems like an impossible task.
Only gotten two peeps on board the Linux train and they both had previous experience with it from school or work.
I actually started using Firefox in my early teens just because I liked the look of the Ui and themes better than Chrome.
I’ve also recently switched to Librewolf ;)
Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I use Linux…no wait, Just because I use Linux doesn’t make me…well I am gay but…dammit!
I’ve been using it for years just to translate my PS4 controller to Xbox so it works with most games
