  • And the problem is not even the corporate wokeism (although it’s feels about as insincere as all of the current corporate wokewashing) it’s just… bad writing. “Lifeless” is absolutely on point as a description for the sequels. It felt like they only existed to yank my nostalgia while at the same time trying to do so with less thought and love poured into them. Plastic, lifeless, sanitized, insincere, corporate profit driven nostalgia-fodder CAN NOT compare to simply good writing, actors with chemistry and sincerity.

I watched 7, suffered through 8 and didn’t even care about watching 9. Yes, I am nostalgic, but that’s precisely what the sequels were created to evoke. But just nostalgia isn’t enough!

Like you, I really enjoyed most of the spin-offs. They had a story to tell and they had direction, believable characters and did not feel like just trying to yank my nostalgia for the original trilogy. I mean… they DID yank my nostalgia, but then they went above and beyond that and told interesting stories.

  • That kind of violence is really the exception to the rule. Mainly because the movement is anything but centralised, anyone and everyone can be part of it and declare themselves antifascist. And of course the corpo media is more interested in and reports on the things that make us look bad and get them clicks.

I did write an entire essay here, but then it occurred to me that this is rather not the place and it felt… self-congratulatory, so I’ll just say:

Most of the work antifascist actions do is small and quiet but imho more important than the black block.

  • I go completely cosplay in those worlds, hell yeah, xenophobia is part of the lore and it’s fun to flip your usual behavior to let off some steam in a safe and gratifying way. I’ll play the “Xeno-Scum!” screaming commissar as well as the medieval knight who thinks black people are naturally inferior. But every fucking time, there’s some asshole in the fandom whose damaged brain thinks this somehow translates into acceptable behavior IRL.

No dude! How do the huge black, red and straight out Antifa-Flag hanging in the playroom, the dozens of stickers everywhere showing a fist destroying a swastika and the fotos from demonstrations showing us with the local democratic-socialist youth not give it away? Our clubhouse is not a safe place for fascists to be in!

  • No, but the reason for it is one of safety, not morality:

Every bacteria, virus, fungus or other germ that can contaminate that lab and that meat is already adapted to hurt me, there is no species barrier. Nature generally abhors cannibalism because of this.

Now if you grow it in a lab, that might not be too much of a risk, but once you enter capitalist industrial production there are numerous incentives to cut corners and increase the risk of contamination.

Contamination also exists in factory farming, but at least there, there’s a species barrier and the impact of that cannot be overstated.

Alternatively, you’ll create a swamp of human meat factory farms that use huge amounts of antiviral, antifungal and antibiotic agents and just get soooooo much more effective in training multi-resistant germs, already adapted to human tissue.

    I was very very lucky.

I turned 26 when I heard myself coughing like a 66 year old chainsmoker with cancerous lungs, found I was unable to run up stairs and out of breath after carrying groceries inside. I had to have a cig every morning so I would be able to have a shit at all, but if I did… that first drag sent me rushing to the bathroom, it got so bad, I had to light the first one while sitting on the loo, or i’d shit my pants.

That’s when I found myself disgusted with myself. I stopped, I simply stopped. From 38 cigarettes per day to 0. I am so happy it worked, because I am a very easily tempted personality and tend towards addiction in anything that gives my brain pleasure.

It took a year before I completely stopped coughing and two years before I could run up those stairs again, but one day I simply realized “Oh my! I’m not out of breath. What… what happened? Oh, yeah I quit smoking! Damn this feels nice!”
