I think that the great filter/fermi paradox is a combination of two facts,

1. Our entire radio output (the only example we have to go by) is pitiful compared to the sun, like a candle in front of a flood light, you’ll only be able to see it so far before it’s completely drowned out. After a few dozen light years our radio output is less than the margin of error of a stars detectable radio output.
2. As a civilization advances it must reduce radio leakage. As data gets more important, it gets more important that you’re not wasting energy moving it around. Narrow beamed radio transmission becomes the norm and even less radio signals escape the system than when radio was messy and overpowered.

They’re not missing or gone, they’ve just moved beyond messy radio signals. Even we tightened up our radio emissions in a little over a century. Most of what we watch or listen to comes to us via fiber, cable, or short range transmissions like cell phone towers and Wi-Fi.

I don’t.
I don’t have kids, I work 40hrs a week, I don’t buy little things I want because there’s a few “big” things I want that’ll I’ll need about $800 for.
I make it almost paycheck to paycheck and it will take me at least 6 months to save $800 if I buy nothing else.

At the moment it has a pretty low (~0) person to person infection rate.
But, it does have a 56% mortality rate (Covid was between 3%-5%) so I don’t think we should be fucking around with our response to it.
Viruses can mutate and that R value (person to person transmission rate) can shoot up after a mutation.
I would much rather us have an “overblown” response than an inadequate response like we did with Covid. .

ChatGPT came out and all the other tech companies like Google freaked the fuck out because they weren’t first to the market.
In response they started adding AI to Google search.
Well, Microsoft can’t let that stand either so now they’re both in a mad dash to put it in fucking everything before the other guy does.

To them, Misinformation = Money.
By disbanding safety and ethics councils and committees they are allowing for greater volumes of misinformation to flow through their services.
Misinformation tends to increase closer to elections.

Anything is anonymous if you register with a fake name and email.

As climate change continues to accelerate, expect more of these stories and expect them to soon start including violence.

And every capitalist country slowly removes these benefits until major uprisings.

We figured out a long time ago that there’s only two things people need in order to keep them happy:
Bread and Circuses.
As long as people have food on their table and a source of entertainment you can take everything else away and they’ll be content enough to not revolt.
But it’s important to not take everything else away at once either, that’s why they chisel away at them until only those two are left.
